Offset Coffee Table

This sculptural coffee table is conceived as a study in mass, balance, and deliberate asymmetry. A low, cylindrical base anchors the composition, while a raised cubic volume is offset from center, creating a dynamic dialogue between primary geometries. The result is a piece that reads as both furniture and functional sculpture.

Crafted in a deeply textured, bush-hammered black basalt finish, the surface reveals a raw, mineral tactility matte, irregular, and light-absorbing. The finish emphasizes the table’s monolithic presence, evoking quarried stone rather than manufactured furniture. Subtle variations in texture and tone are integral to the design, reinforcing its artisanal and geological character.

Proportioned to operate on two levels, the lower plane functions as a generous coffee table surface, while the elevated cube introduces a secondary height suitable for placing objects, books, or lighting—blurring the boundary between coffee table and side table. This vertical offset adds both utility and visual tension, making the piece highly distinctive in a living space.
